FREE PARENT/STUDENT COLLEGE WORKSHOP

Scotch Plains Public Library

Why isn't she taking this more seriously? How do I get my parents off my back? Everything is so competitive, how can I make sure my child stands out? How can I enjoy high school, but still get into a "good" school?

We will answer all these questions and more in a two-part seminar on applying to college. The seminars can be taken as a two part series or on their own.

Monday, Jan. 28, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
Part I: What to Expect When You're Applying

• What is the process?
• Timeline by grade, e.g. Sophomore, Junior, Senior
• Potential conflicts and how to avoid them
• Parent and student expectations
• Step-by-step guide
• Appropriate roles for parent and student

Tuesday, Feb. 5, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
Part II: Owning the Application Process

• Find the college that is "right" for you
• Tips for communicating "match" to prospective college
• Appropriate roles for parent and student
• Setting realistic expectations
• Communication techniques for success
• Transitioning from high school to college

Your seminar leaders are Lisa Bleich, President of College Bound Mentor, and Success Coach Donna Gerhauser. Lisa has extensive experience in marketing and education. She has worked with high school students over the past four years helping them find and successfully apply to the college that best meets their needs. Donna is an interpersonal communication expert and a Past President of the New Jersey Professional Coaches Association.
